About Redway Furniture

James Redway Furniture Makers was established in the Fall of 1986 by James and Liza Redway. In 1990 we opened The Silver Cherry in Woodbury Connecticut where we display our hand-made American furniture.

We begin by hand-selecting the finest kiln-dried FAS American Black Cherry. Boards are cut to rough-length and flattened on a jointer, and planed, ripped, and cut to size.

Each furniture piece is made one-at-a-time. Our table tops are glued up from the same plank of cherry to ensure that the wood matches in both grain and color.

All tables are constructed with double-pinned mortise and tenon construction. Each tenon is glued and secured in-place with two hand-planed Black Walnut pegs.

There is an unsurpassed attention to design and detail that is just not found today. Our finishes are hand-rubbed using a mixture of Tung and Teak Oils that provide a trouble-free finish that not only gives our furniture a silky-smooth look and feel, but will also last for generations to come.

Each piece is signed, numbered, dated, and branded with our hallmark.

All drawers and Shaker Steps are hand-dovetailed using only hand chisels and Japanese Dozuki Saws.

In the Winter of 2015 Jason Redway joined the company after spending over two decades watching his parents make furniture.  Jason is extremely talented and adds a fresh, new design look to the classic Redway Line. He has a wonderful attention to detail and finely polishes each piece even before the Tung Oil is applied.
